Who determines the recipients of AFBHS scholarship grants?

A committee of guidance counselors, teachers and administrators of Belmont High School will determine the recipients of the scholarships, as they do for other scholarship programs at the school. No one affiliated with AFBHS will be involved in this process.

Will an AFBHS scholarship reduce the college aid a student will receive?

No. "Dollars for Scholars," and other organizations that administer scholarship grants, have negotiated with nearly every college/university for procedures for this issue. In most cases, a local grant up to $2,500/year will not reduce the amount of aid from the college and will reduce the student's own financial commitment. In some cases, a college/university will allow local grants up to the student's personal/family contribution as stated in a given financial aid package. Thus, the guidance department at Belmont High School will know how a local grant will relate with a student's financial aid package. An AFBHS grant will reduce the student's financial contribution as allowed by the financial aid package from each college.
